Privacy Policy
Effective: when the app is first released. Last updated: November 1, 2026.
Mile Steward is built to keep your information on your iPhone. There is no account and no analytics, advertising or tracking in the app. We do not receive your trips, locations, invoices or vehicle records.
What the app stores on your phone
Your trips (times, start and end places, miles, purpose, category), places you save, vehicles and service records, invoice photos and PDFs you attach, and your settings. Location and motion data are used to detect and measure drives. All of this stays on your device unless you choose to export a backup or report.
Information that leaves your phone
- Apple Maps services. To show maps, name places, estimate the distance of drives it recovered and find nearby shops, the app sends start and end coordinates, or your search and the map area, to Apple, under Apple's privacy terms.
- Vehicle lookups. When you add a vehicle by VIN or check recalls, the app sends the VIN, or the make, model and year, to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public service. No other information is sent.
- Purchases. Handled by Apple. We do not see your payment details.
- Files you share. Reports, backups and records-request letters leave the app only when you share them, to wherever you choose.
The optional SCOPE link (coming later)
A later version adds an optional link to SCOPE, a separate app from the same publisher. It is off until you turn it on. If you turn it on, client names and the exports you choose to send stay on your devices and, if you opt in, in your own iCloud, and move between Mile Steward and SCOPE through it. We run no server for this and we do not receive that data. Turning the link off stops it.
Your Apple Watch, widgets and the logs on your iPhone
If you use the Apple Watch app, your iPhone sends a summary to your paired Watch: mileage totals, the estimated deduction, the next service due, whether a drive is in progress, and the place names, times and miles of your latest unclassified drive. The Watch keeps a cached copy of that summary and sends your classify commands back to your iPhone. Widgets, Spotlight and Live Activities show a small part of your records on this iPhone using iOS features. None of this is sent to us.
The app also keeps a diagnostic log on your iPhone. Places you visit can appear in it by coordinates, and the app can use them to suggest a nearby shop. That log is not uploaded.
Permissions
Location (to record drives; Always lets the app record when it is closed), Motion & Fitness (to tell when you are driving and to recover missed drives), Calendars (optional; calendar names, event titles, times and locations are read on your phone to suggest a business purpose, your calendar choices are saved on your phone, and a purpose you accept is saved with the drive; none of it is uploaded), Camera and Photos (optional, to scan VINs, invoices and odometers; text is read on your iPhone), and Notifications (reminders). You can change any of them in iOS Settings.
Your choices
Export your data any time from Settings → Backup. Delete everything from Settings → Privacy, or by deleting the app. Because we hold no copy, we cannot recover deleted data for you.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13.
